TUI, the international tour operator, is planning to restart flights and travel packages to Greece in July 2020. This is a sign of confidence in the safety and recovery of the Greek tourist sector, and the first major travel announcement in Greece for the post-COVID-19 tourist season.
Hanover, Germany: 17 June 2020
The company restarted the post-Covid-19 summer season on 16 June 2020 with two fully-booked flights from Germany to Majorca. A further 20 departures are planned in the coming days, including Faro as a second destination.
In July, TUI plans to start flights to Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria, Portugal, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The European source markets of TUI currently include Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
The company announced plans to operate around 30% of its original capacity in Q4 2020. Around 50% of TUI’s Greek hotels plan to reopen in the beginning of July. More Greek hotels may open with the gradual ease of travel restrictions during the summer.
International flight restrictions related to COVID-19 have had a huge impact on tourism in Greece.
